Yard sale to benefit county employee
PHYLLIS RUSSELL Libby Jones knows a yard sale won't raise all the money her mom is likely to need going forward but hopes it will help.
"I have to do something for my mom," she said.
Chances are good that anyone who dropped by the Cherokee County Recycling Center in recent years bumped into Jones' mother, Phyllis Russell, even if they didn't know her by name. An attendant at the recycling center, she greeted many of the folks who came by to make dropoffs.
Several weeks ago, coworkers noticed Russell suffering from a loss of memory at work and after being admitted to a hospital she became paralyzed on one side. It initially was believed she had suffered a stroke.
More recently, however, the 61-year woman has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, her daughter said. Russell is currently in a nursing facility in Union.
To help offset some of her mother's expenses, Jones is organizing a yard sale for Saturday, July 26, on Cherokee Avenue beside the Colonial Fish Camp. It will start at 7 a.m.
Not only in need of customers, Jones said the benefit yard sale is also in need of donated items.
"Anything people can donate for the sale would be appreciated," she said. "We can even pick it up, if need be."
Donations can be dropped off at 183 Idlewood Road in Gaffney or Jones can be reached at (864) 480-9795.
