Littlejohn earns preseason honors

      Former Gaffney High football standout Jarvis Littlejohn is in select company. The Tusculum College senior was named last week to the 2008 Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference Football First Team. "It's a big honor," said Littlejohn, who starred on the Indians' 2003 state championship team. "I'm looking forward to the season.

Post 109 on verge of elimination after 8-3 home loss to Irmo

      The Gaffney Post 109 American Legion team finds itself in an unusual position this early in the playoffs - on the verge of elimination. Gaffney, which has advanced to three straight state tournaments, trails 0-2 to Irmo in the best-offive, second-round series after an 8-3 loss Tuesday at Commissioners Field.

Bowden is picked to win ACC, but it's not Bobby

      GREENSBORO, Ga. - For the 17th straight year, a Bowden-coached team is the preseason favorite in the Atlantic Coast Conference. For the first time in that span, it isn't Florida State. Clemson - coached by Tommy Bowden, the son of Bobby Bowden, major college football's wins leader at Florida State- was announced Monday as the favorite to win the ACC title.

Dungy hopeful Manning will recover soon

      INDIANAPOLIS - Tony Dungy is certain Peyton Manning's left knee will be ready for the Colts' season-opener. Heck, the Colts coach said he thinks Manning might even play during the presesason. On Tuesday, Dungy said he was optimistic the Colts' biggest question heading into training camp - Manning's valuable knee - could be resolved quicker than most people expect.
