Woman says she was beaten, pushed into fire by boyfriend
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a July 20 incident during which a 35-year-old Blacksburg woman allegedly was pushed into a fire during an assault by her boyfriend.
Police said the woman had burns on her right arm and two black eyes at the time the report was taken.
According to the report, the woman said she was assaulted by her boyfriend in her South Rutherford Street yard and that she was punched, kicked and struck with a baseball bat before being pushed into a fire
No charges had been reported as of Tuesday.
A 32-year-old Gaffney man was arrested for a driving under suspension and failing to stop for a blue light after he allegedly fled from a public safety checkpoint on Providence Road and 3rd Avenue early July 19.
According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, Joshua Bradley Seals, of Musgrove Street, drove up to the safety checkpoint at about 1:40 a.m. and told police he did not have his license with him. After being advised to pull over to the side of the road, police allege Seals pulled forward and sped away down Kendrick Street. An officer gave chase with blue lights and sirens but police allege Seals did not stop.
Police said Seals stopped his vehicle on Irene Park Drive and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended. Police said they determined Seals' drivers license was suspended and the July 19 stop his third offense.
Seals still was being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center on July 22 in lieu of $2,100 surety bond on a charge of driving under suspension and $5,000 surety bond on a charge of failing to stop for a blue light.
The Gaffney Police Department seized numerous pills and suspected marijuana following a July 20 traffic stop in the city.
According to a police report, police found five pill bottles and a cigar box containing suspected marijuana during a search of a 2005 Hyundai.
The pill bottles contained three hydrocodone pills, seven Adderall pills, 16 oxycodone pills, 14 morphine pills and 17 morphine sulfate pills, all of which are controlled substances.
A passenger in the vehicle, Jon Curtis Bobo, 18, of Vernil Road, was charged with possession of the pills, possession with intent to deliver the pills, and possession with intent to deliver within 1/2 mile proximity of a school or playground.
Bobo was being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center as of July 22 in lieu of a $10,000 surety bond.
About $900 in damage occurred at a 2nd Avenue home last weekend.
According to a report at the Gaffney Police Department, a vandal or vandals broke several windows on a rental property and shot fireworks into the interior. The vandalism occurred between early July 19 and late July 20.
An unoccupied home on Goldmine Springs Road sustained an estimated $4,000 in damage when metal thieves targeted the home's electrical wires.
The Gaffney Police Department reported someone entered the crawl space of the home between July 17 and July 21 to gain access to the wiring. The home previously was targeted for its copper pipes.
A home on Curve Road in Blacksburg was the target of an apparent break-in, though nothing was reported stolen.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone broke into the home in the 100 block through the front door, causing about $200 in damage The break-in occurred between 5:30 a.m. July 18 and 1:30 p.m. July 20.
A Chesnee liquor store sustained about $800 in roof damage when a burglar attempted to gain entry.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's office, the roof damage at Jenkins Liquor Store on Hampton Street occurred between July 19 and July 20. Nothing appeared to be missing from the store.
Two vehicles were targeted by a vandal or vandals between July 17 and July 18.
A Kia sport utility vehicle parked in the 200 block of Michigan Avenue sustained an estimated $2,500 in paint damage while a van parked in the 100 block of Martin Lane sustained an estimated $1,000 in paint damage. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said a vandal or vandals used an unknown object to scratch the vehicles.
Roughly $700 in electronics were recently stolen from a vehicle parked on Cliffside Highway in Chesnee.
Between July 16 and July 18, someone broke the lock on the passenger door of a vehicle parked in the 200 block and stole a 1000-watt JBL amplifier and a black speaker enclosure with two 12-inch Pioneer subwoofer speakers.
Two police vehicles were damaged during separate incidents recently.
A Cherokee County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle was involved in an accident July 18 at about 8:50 a.m. while a deputy was responding to domestic disturbance. Police didn't estimate the amount of damage to the vehicle but the South Carolina Highway Patrol determined the deputy was not at fault.
A South Carolina Highway Patrol vehicle, meanwhile, sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage July 21 when it struck a deer on Pacolet Highway. The 60-year-old driver of the state vehicle told the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office the deer walked into the roadway.
The Gaffney Police Department is looking into the theft of a trailer on South Granard Street.
The white enclosed trailer with dual axles owned by Myles Construction was stolen from the 600 block between July 17 and July 18. The trailer is valued at $3,300 while its contents are valued at $4,000.
