County agrees to provide funds for Rock Springs water project

Cherokee Council appropriated $50,000 Monday to bring more much-needed public water to the Rock Springs Community.

The request was made by Blacksburg officials, Cherokee County Interim Administrator Ben Clary said.

The Town of Blacksburg had dried up most of their own funds for the on-going project and needed an additional $50,000 to extend the water line to where a North Carolina company services the county, Clary said.

Council, though, at Clary's urging, agreed to delay payment until work on the water line is complete.

Last summer, the Rock Springs community made headlines when well supplies there reached emergency levels.

Sen. Harvey Peeler (RGaffney) and State Rep. Olin Phillips (D-Gaffney) obtained funding for the initial water project under critical needs approved by the state Department of Heath and Environmental Control.
