CITY, SCHOOL TRUSTEE SEATS AT STAKE TUESDAY

Polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m. for general elections for City of Gaffney and Cherokee County School Board elections.

There are two contested races in the city. Incumbent mayor Henry Jolly is seeing a third term while being challenged by Paul R. Moore.

In the race for City Council District 4, incumbent Dennis Ramsey is seeking a second term while being challenged by Geraldine Fowler. City councilmen Wayne Ramsey and Billy Love face no opposition.

The ballot also includes Gaffney Board of Public Works Commissioners Elijah Inabinette and Joe Dean Knuckles, each of whom is running unopposed.

There are five school board seats up for election but only two are being contested.

Incumbent school trustee Donnie Lee Smith faces a challenge from Roy Hale for the District 4 seat. Political newcomers Jamie Martin, Marie Waters and Joe Craig are running for the District 6 school board seat held by longtime board member Sandra Greene, who is not seeking re-election.

School trustees Billy Blackwell and Willie Crosby are running unopposed. Cheryll Smith faces no opposition in her bid for the school board seat formerly held by the late Ola Copeland.

There will be 21 of the city's 33 precincts open for Tuesday's election. The polls will close at 7 p.m.
