Mr. and Mrs. Peeler married 50 years
      Arthur ("Sonny") and Joyce Peeler of Gaffney celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 10, 2008. Mr. and Mrs. Peeler were married in York in 1958. They have a daughter, Teri Snavely and husband, Joel, of Middletown, Pa., and two sons, the Rev. Jeff Peeler and wife, Sherri, of Everett, Pa., and Rex Peeler and wife, Hope, of Mayo.

      ROCHESTER, Minn. - Slouching is bad for you, according to the August issue of Mayo Clinic Health Letter. Poor posture, in combination with bone changes that sometimes come with aging, can result in the appearance of a hump on the back. The medical term for the rounding of the back is kyphosis (ki-FO-sis).

     USHERS CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY - The Ushers Ministry of Bethel Baptist Church celebrated its anniversary Sunday, July 20, at the 10:30 a.m. services. Participants on the program were James Mickles, William Smith, Larry Jones, Kerry Fowler Sr., Lorraine Littlejohn, Essence Hughes, Gloria Smith, Kerry Fowler Jr., Malisha Smith, Chris Dewberry, Maurice Hemphill, E.G. Logan, Conell Dawkins, Charo Watkins and Alvin Smith. Guest speaker was the Rev. Patrick Suber, pastor of Foster Chapel Baptist Church, Roebuck, and principal at Jessie M. No more numbers for Riverbanks' cubs
Four African lion cubs get new names
      COLUMBIA - The votes are in, and the pedigreed African lion cubs that were born at Riverbanks on June 7, 2008, now have official names. The cubs, which keepers have fondly referred to by number (based on their birth order) for the past eight weeks, will now be known as Johari, Chuma, Jasiri-Congaree and Lina.

Columbia Museum of Art unveils ancient art
Oldest objects in the gallery date to 12th-7th centuries B.C
      COLUMBIA - The Columbia Museum of Art has unveiled a new and permanent installation of its ancient art collection. On view in the Ray Taylor Fair Gallery, the exhibit includes approximately 50 objects that introduce the major ancient civilizations from the Mediterranean and Near East.

      Zachary Tyler Estes Sean and Kelly Estes of Rock Hill announce the birth of their son, Zachary Tyler, on July 28, 2008, in Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, weighing 8 lbs. 11 ozs. Zachary has a sister, Makenna Smalley, and a brother, CJ Smalley, of Rock Hill.

      Fund raiser The Brotherhood of Midway Baptist Church will hold a fund raiser for missions on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 5-7 p.m. in the church's Family Life Center. The menu includes hamburger steak, baked potato, salad, dessert and tea. Eat-in or take-out.

3 crows test positive for West Nile
      COLUMBIA - The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has confirmed West Nile virus in three birds so far for the 2008 season. The confirmed cases, all American crows, were found in Summerville, Rock Hill and Spartanburg.
