Daddy Joe's will host fundraiser for Miracle Hill Rescue Mission
Daddy Joe's Beach House BBQ and Grill will be open Sunday, Aug. 24, as a fund-raiser for Miracle Hill Rescue Mission in Cherokee County, a not-forprofit ministry that helps provide for the hurting and the homeless and is a Harbor of Hope in the Upstate.
"Normally, Daddy Joe's is closed on Sunday," Director Murl Lehman said. "But Shag Stepp has graciously agreed again this year to help us in this charitable effort by opening his doors on Sunday, Aug. 24, and basically giving us his profits for the day. We appreciate his hospitality and support and trust that his generosity will be matched by those looking for a place to eat after church on that day."
Dining guests will be able to stop by for some of the best barbecue in South Carolina. However, instead of the normal meals, Daddy Joe's will have a barbecue buffet that day, consisting of chopped pork barbecue, Calabash chicken, baked beans, hush puppies, French fries, coleslaw and tea. A complimentary dessert will be provided with each meal. The serving line will begin at 11 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m., which should allow plenty of time for everyone to drop by.
The cost will be $10 for adults and $5 for children 8 years of age and younger. Tickets will be sold at the door, but the public is encouraged to buy tickets in advance by calling Miracle Hill Rescue Mission at 488-0376.
Advisory board members, volunteers and staff of the mission will serve as wait staff on that day and all tips will be used to benefit the mission.
Miracle Hill Rescue Mission in Cherokee County opened its doors in November 2000 as the Harbor of Hope. As an outreach of Miracle Hill Ministries Inc., the name was changed in order to be more easily identified with the Miracle Hill network of ministries in the Upstate.
The mission is a 44-bed shelter providing 24 beds for women and children and 20 beds for men. During the cold weather months, 20 overflow beds are available to provide for additional homeless who otherwise would have no other choice than to sleep on the street. More than 200 different men, women and children have been cared for in the first six months of this year. And, over 1,000 bed-nights were provided this past month. In addition to the mission, a thrift store in Cherokee County provides necessary clothing for clients as well as inexpensive items to families in the community who live on limited incomes.
