WHAT'S UP Fund raisers The Brotherhood of Midway Baptist Church will hold a fund raiser for missions on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 5-7 p.m. in the church's Family Life Center. The menu includes hamburger steak, baked potato, salad, dessert and tea. Eat-in or take-out. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased from any member of the Midway Brotherhood or at the church office, 153 Midway Road. First Baptist Church of Blacksburg, 103 S. Rutherford St., will have a barbecue sale today from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Eatin or take-out plates are $7 and include barbecue, slaw, baked beans, chips and bun. A gigantic church-wide yard sale will also be held today from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 16, from 7 a.m. until in the Family Life Center. For sale will be furniture, clothing, kitchenware, books, cookbooks, puzzles and lots more. The Senior Centers of Cherokee County will hold a craft show Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Booths will be $20, with booth rental fees going to the Blacksburg Senior Center Renovation Fund. Rutledge Ave. Gospel singing National recording artists The Bledsoes will be appearing Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Chesnee Gospel Music Center on Green Lake Road in Chesnee. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will have a third Saturday night singing Saturday, Aug. 16, at 7. Guests will be The Chapelettes and The Hamptons. Homecoming will be held Sunday, Aug, 17, at 12 p.m. at True Gospel Independent Baptist Church, 312 Pondfield Road. A singing at 2 p.m. will feature the Blood Bought Trio. Revival services will be held Aug. 18-23 at 7 p.m. at Heaven Bound Baptist Church, located off Hwy. 11 past Fairview Baptist Church. A nursery will be provided. Shady Grove Baptist Church will have its homecoming and revival services beginning Sunday, Aug. 17. Pastor Lee Byers Jr. will deliver the homecoming sermon at 11:15 a.m. Revival services will be Aug. 18-21 at 7 p.m. Speakers will be: Aug. 18, the Rev Freddie Davidson, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church; Aug. 19, the Rev. William Thompson, pastor of St. Peters Baptist Church, Grover; Aug. 20, the Rev. Michael Bridges, pastor of Concord Baptist Church; and Aug. 21, the Rev. A. L. Brackett, pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Gaffney, and St. Paul Baptist Church, Union. Southside Baptist Church, 204 W. O'Neal St., will have a back-to-school bash Sunday, Aug. 17, at 5 p.m. in the Family Life Center. The event is for all ages and there will be food and fun followed by a special time of prayer for the students, teachers and schools. Donations of school supplies will be accepted. Shady Grove Baptist Church Education Ministry will have a back-to-school celebration Saturday, Aug. 16, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Students will receive school supplies and there will also be hot dogs, hamburgers, fish, sodas and games. Mikes Creek Baptist Church will have homecoming and revival services beginning Aug. 17 and continuing through Aug. 21. Bishop Terry McCaskill, pastor of Mt. Sinai World Outreach, will be special guest. He can be seen on Channel 6, WGGS.
