Somebody's stealing packages left by 'Brown'

The Gaffney Police Department reported the theft of two separate UPSdelivered packages from South Petty Street homes last week.

According to police reports, a UPS package delivered to a home in the 600 block of South Petty was stolen between 4:34 p.m. Aug. 5 and 6 a.m. Aug. 6. The package contained two pairs of ladies "Keen" shoes valued at $206.

Between 2:28 p.m. and 5 p.m. Aug. 7, a second UPS package was stolen from a home in the 400 block. That package contained a $108 memory card for a Garmin Navigator GPS unit.

The Gaffney Police Department on Aug. 13 served a four-year-old arrest warrant on a West Buford Street man in connection with a 2004 assault.

According to the warrant, Rory D. Sims Jr., 27, is accused of assault of a high and aggravated nature in connection with a March 25, 2004, incident during which he allegedly struck another man in the head and broke the victim's jaw.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating two separate instances during which a woman's flat screen television was damaged with a golf club and a table was smashed following a subsequent break-in.

According to incident reports, a Pleasant School Road woman was engaged in an argument with a Martin Lane man at about 9 p.m. on Aug. 12 when he allegedly became mad and damaged her 42-inch Phillips television with a Wilson golf putter. Sometime after police left the scene, the woman claimed someone broke into her home and broke a table and chairs. Damage during the two incidents is estimated at $3,600. No charges were reported.

A handgun was reported stolen recently from a Sycamore Street home. The Gaffney Police Department reported a Phoenix Armsmade Raven .25-caliber pistol was taken from a home in the 300 block between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 9. No suspect was listed. The gun is valued at $250.

A York County contractor reported the theft of a utility trailer from a Sarratt School Road job site.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the black 1999 REA trailer was taken from the 100 block between 10:30 a.m. Aug. 9 and 8 a.m. Aug. 11. The trailer is valued at $2,800.

Several vehicles were reported stolen in Gaffney in recent days.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported the theft of a Kazuma Dingo 150 four-wheeler taken from a Macedonia Road property Aug. 13 between noon and 6 p.m.

Also, a Robot 50cc scooter was taken from the 400 block of Bonner Lake Road between 3:20 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 13. The scooter is valued at $1,016.

On Aug. 14, a Track 50cc scooter was taken from an Eastview Drive property. The dark blue and gray scooter is valued at $500.

A burglar targeted a Pacolet Highway home Aug. 13, stealing a safe full of prescription medication.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the thief broke into the home in the 1200 block between 2:30 and 5:20 p.m. by kicking open the front door. A small safe containing the prescription medication Xanax, Loratab and oxycodone, in addition to a vehicle title, was taken from a bedroom dresser. Theft losses are estimated at $30.

An air conditioning unit was stolen from the front yard of a Walker Road, Blacksburg, home Aug. 13.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the 18,500 B.T.U. Frigidaire air condition unit was taken from the 700 block between noon and 6 p.m. The unit is valued at $700.

Two outbuildings on the same Blacksburg street were burglarized this week.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, about $150 in hand tools were stolen from an outbuilding in the 100 block of Possum Trot Road between 8 p.m. Aug. 12 and 9 a.m. Aug 13. Among the tools stolen are two pliers, two wrenches, two saws, a drill and a screwdriver, all of unknown make.

Between 8 a.m. Aug. 11 and 2 p.m. Aug. 13, another outbuilding in the 200 block was forced open. Police said the thief or thieves stole two full gas cans worth about $40.

A Craftsman tool set was stolen from a vehicle at Tribal and Mountain Valley roads in Blacksburg recently.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone forced open the sliding rear window of a vehicle owned by an East Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, man between Aug. 9 and Aug. 10. The 50-piece tool set was contained in a gray plastic case. It is valued at $200.
