Benson's got a magic touch
      The Craftsman Truck Series has become known for competitive racing and multiple winners each season. There have been seven different winners in the first eight races this season. But now Johnny Benson is putting his own personal lock on Victory Lane. His victory at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday was his third straight and fourth in the past five races.

      A 14-driver race The race for the Chase, which continues this week at Michigan International Speedway and runs for three more races — Bristol, California and Richmond — is shaping up to be a 14-driver contest. Clint Bowyer, in 13th place, is 22 points behind Matt Kenseth, who holds the 12th and final spot in the elite group.

Wildcats set for final tuneup before start of season
      Friday night will be a homecoming of sorts for Blacksburg head coach Mickey Moss as he leads his alma mater on to the field for the first time in the first annual Iron City Jamboree. The game will serve as the first and only tune-up for the Wildcats, who open their 2008 campaign Aug. 22 with Walhalla.

Three of four won recent competition at Cherokee National Golf Course
      Four young golfers from Gaffney will be competing this weekend in the South Carolina Junior Golf Association's Thomas D. Todd North All Stars at Pickens Country Club. Three of the four were winners in their respective age divisions at the Cherokee National Golf & Recreation Club's recent Junior Golf Tournament.

Local golfer's championship dreams fall just short in Clinton
      Gaffney golfer Josh Gallman finished tied for second earlier this week at the South Carolina Amateur Championship at Mugrove Mill Golf Club in Clinton. The local product finished 4- under par for the tournament, one shot behind the winner, Greenville's Lee Palms.
