Miss Wilkie, Mr. Turner married May 24
MRS. JOEL ADAM TURNER (RACHEL ELIZABETH WILKIE) Rachel Elizabeth Wilkie and Joel Adam Turner were united in marriage Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Goucher Baptist Church. The Rev. Stuart Kersey officiated the 2 p.m. double ring ceremony.
Music was provided by Sandra Price, pianist; Linda Moore, organist; Roy Price, violinist; and Barbara Turner and Ashby Blakely, soloists. Ms. Turner sang "How Beautiful" and Mr. Blakely performed "I Will Be Here."
The church was enhanced with ferns and cascading arrangements of pink roses and white and pink lilies. The pews were trimmed with matching arrangements and the stained glass windows were adorned with crystal hurricane lamps and ivy. The doors the church were decorated with wreaths of various matching flowers.
Escorted and given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a white strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline and basque waist. The A-line skirt was pleated and opened into a chapel train. Opulent beading and embroidery decorated the bodice, skirt and train. Her headpiece of Swarovski crystals held an elbow-length double layer veil. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and pink and white lilies.
Tara Bolton of Blacksburg attended the bride as matron of honor while Kristin Matheny of Spartanburg was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Shonda Spencer, Becky Vinesett, Lasinda Turner, all of Gaffney; Amy Turner, sister of the groom, of York; and Deanna Ellis of Anderson.
The attendants were attired in pink strapless floor-length dresses of satin and chiffon that were detailed with metallic embroidery and crystal beading. They carried miniature bouquets that matched the bride's.
Morgan Grace Taylor, cousin of the bride, of Gaffney served as flower girl. She wore a white Strausburg chiffon floor-length dress and carried a basket of pink rose petals.
Al Turner of Gaffney attended his son of best man. Groomsmen were Davy Turner of Georgia, brother of the groom; Jason Turner, cousin of the groom, Michael Wilkie, brother of the bride, Marc Mayfield, John Howard, Donnie Spencer, all of Gaffney; and Matthew Robertson of Spartanburg.
Following the ceremony, a reception was given by the bride's parents in the church fellowship hall.
The bride is the daughter of Jackie and Jan Wilkie of Gaffney. Her grandparents are Peggy Henson of Gaffney, Sarah Bowman of Gaffney, Elizabeth Whelchel of Gaffney and the late Robert Bowman and Wayne Wilkie. A graduate of Anderson College with a B.A. degree in Psychology, she received a Masters in Education from Converse College and is a teacher in the Cherokee County School District.
The groom is the son of Al and Theresa Turner of Gaffney and grandson of Norma Turner of Gaffney, Betty Hughes of Cowpens and the late Joe Hughes and Tommy Turner. He graduated from Spartanburg Technical College with an associate degree in general engineering and is employed by A/C Systems an Services Inc.
Mr. and Mrs. Turner are making their home in Gaffney after a twoweek honeymoon to California and Hawaii.
