Three go to hospital following I-85 wreck

2008-08-18 / Local News

Three people were transported to local hospitals Sunday morning following a crash that caused a tractor-trailer to strike a bridge support on Interstate 85 near the 95 mile marker.

According to Lance Cpl. Jeff Gaskin of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 8:39 a.m. when a 1986 Dodge pickup driven by 20-year-old Dontrelle Milton, of Lawrenceville, Ga., headed south on Interstate 85, made an unlawful lane change from the passing lane to the driving lane and struck a 1997 Freightliner tractor-trailer in the left front.

The collision caused the tractor-trailer, driven by 42- year-old Wendell Langston, of Las Vegas, Nev., to travel off the right side of the road, where it struck a bridge support head-on.

Langston, who was hauling a load of oranges, had to be airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center following the crash. His condition was not immediately available.

Milton and a passenger, 19- year-old Cha'nisha Jones, of Union City, Ga., both were taken by ambulance to Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Gaskin said no one was killed in the crash and all three people involved were wearing seat belts.
