18-year-old female struck by car at McCluney Park family cookout The Gaffney Police Department responded Aug. 16 to an accident during which an 18- year-old North Carolina woman was struck while trying to chase down a car leaving a family cookout at McCluney Park. According to a police report, Cordelia Valentine, of Sidney Avenue, Albemarle, N.C., ran between some cars while attempting to stop a 20-yearold Gaffney man, Rajshawn Dawkins, from leaving so the family could get some photographs with him. Police said Valentine and Dawkins didn't see each other and she was struck by the car. She was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center following the incident. The Gaffney Police Department is investigating an Aug. 17 shooting during which a 20-year-old man was struck in the leg while standing near Azell Robbs Park. According to police, the victim was standing at the rear of his vehicle at about 9:40 p.m. when he was struck in the right leg. The man told police there was no one else at the park at the time of the incident and that he did not see any passing vehicles, or anyone on foot, at the time. Police said they were told by medical personnel it appeared the gunshot entered the man's leg at a downward angle and that the gunshot appeared to be from a .380 caliber handgun. A 43-year-old Greenville man was arrested Aug. 16 by officers with the Gaffney Police Department for alleged public drunkenness and indecent exposure on Lyman Street. According to a police report, a woman and her daughter witnessed a man later identified as Jimmy Lee Mullinax of Chancer Road relieving himself on a tire of their vehicle. Police said they subsequently located and spoke with Mullinax at a Lyman Street residence and arrested him on the two charges. A thief or thieves stole nearly $3,000 in tools and caused about $1,200 in damage during the recent breakin of a truck. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone broke out all the windows of a 1986 Volvo truck parked on Neal Creek Road in Blacksburg between Aug. 15 and Aug. 18. Taken from the truck were various tools including a DeWalt shop saw, Victor cutting torches, a Makita 1-inch drill, assorted drill bits and hand tools, a Chicago impact wrench and a 16-inch Echo chain saw. A 27-inch television was stolen from a South Oliver Street apartment during a break-in this week. Between 11:30 p.m. Aug. 17 and 7 a.m. Aug. 18, someone forced open a door to an apartment in the 500 block, causing about $300 in damage. The 27-inch television taken from the apartment is valued at $500, according to the Gaffney Police Department. A Cowpens man reported the theft of $15,000 in guns from his home. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's office, someone entered the man's Oakdale Road home between 5 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 p.m. Aug. 10 by removing a window unit. Police did not list the number or types of guns taken from the home, only the estimated total value. The case is being investigated by Sheriff's Office detectives. About $5,000 in furniture and more than $1,000 in tools were stolen from a Fourth Street business Aug. 17. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone forced open the front door of Coleman's Construction between 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. and took two cedar night stands, a cedar king size bed, a cedar chest of drawers, a cedar hope chest, two lamps and a cedar hutch in addition to a Lincoln welding machine and a staple gun. A suspect was listed in the police report but no charges were announced. More than 100 DVD movies were stolen from a Greenfield Road home during a break-in this week. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, someone forced open the door to the home in the 100 block between 6 p.m. Aug. 17 and 6 p.m. Aug. 18, causing about $25 in damage. The thief or thieves took more than 100 DVD movies valued at about $1,800. The Gaffney Police Department is investigating the Aug. 17 break-in of a North Logan Street garage. According to police, a neighbor of Central Alignment heard a burglar alarm sound at about 2:45 a.m. and ran outside to find the rear door of the business had been forced open. Police subsequently entered the building but found no one inside. Officers said they recovered a pry bar laying in an office chair as well as a padlock that had been torn from a drawer. It was unclear if anything had been taken. A video game system was stolen from a Wilderness Trail, Blacksburg, home during a recent burglary. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the home owner found her door cracked open upon her return Aug. 18 at about 12:30 p.m. The only thing missing from the home was a Playstation 3 video game system valued at $499. Police said there were no obvious signs of forced entry. Music thieves targeted two cars recently in Gaffney for their CD players. Between Aug. 16 and Aug. 17, a car parked in the 500 block of West Rutledge Street was entered and a CD player valued at $200 was ripped from the dashboard. Between Aug. 14 and Aug. 15., a car parked at a service station in the 100 block of Rutledge Avenue was entered and a CD player valued at $150 was taken. A 40-inch television and $540 in cash was reported stolen from a Monticello Street home following a recent burglary. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the burglar(s) forced entry to the home in the 100 block between 4 p.m. Aug. 15 and 10 p.m. Aug. 17 by kicking in a door. The Sony LCD television taken from the home was valued at $1,500. Door damage was estimated at $50. |
