Artists will sponsor quilting classes Whether you are an experienced quilter or never quilted a stitch in your life, CAVA has the class for you! Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., Cherokee County Alliance of Visual Artists will be sponsoring quilting classes, which will be offered to the public once a week for six consecutive weeks. Cynthia Tate, who has been quilting for the past 12 years, will teach the class and as she says, "been sewing since Mother taught me as a little girl." Tate is a North Carolina native, but has been calling Gaffney her home for most of her life since her father moved the family to work for Milliken. Graduating from Gaffney High School and attending Limestone College, she has worked intermittently through the years for R. Cudd Addington and with her husband, raised two sons, Michael and Richard. The family now includes a granddaughter, Mallory. Tate also remains active in her church, First Baptist of Gaffney. "Quilting is an art form which is a beautiful example of one of America's most treasured heritages and should inspire us all," said Cindy Wilson, president of CAVA. "And I'm sure that the women of old who pieced and stitched their wonderful bed covers could hardly have envisioned them hanging on the walls of museums and art gallerys as they are today." Anyone wishing to participate in the quilting classes must register before Monday, September 28th. Space is limited, so please call to reserve a spot. You may contact Cindy at 489- 9560, the CAVA office at 489- 9119, the City of Gaffney Visitor's Center 487-6244 or drop in at 301 North Limestone St. in downtown Gaffney. Registration for the class is $5. If you can furnish your own supplies, there will be no other fee. If you would like for Tate to furnish the supplies for you, there will be an additional supply fee of $15, which will include enough materials to complete the two projects planned for the class. |
