Salvation Army Thrift Store to reopen Friday under new roof

By JOE L. HUGHES II Ledger Staff Writer joe@gaffneyledger.com

The local Salvation Army Thrift Store will reopen Friday after a recent storm forced it to temporarily shut down.

A severe thunderstorm that blew through the area Aug. 2 ripped the roof off the structure, resulting in water damage to much of the interior.

"We are really anticipating being able to open the store," said Salvation Army of Cherokee County case worker Beverly Early. "Everything is getting set up and ready to go."

The Salvation Army Church has remained open during the repair effort. Early said a number of phone calls asking when the store would again accept customers have come into church offices.

"A lot of people are ready for us to open up," Early said. "The church has taken a lot of questions about how things were going. They are understanding of why we're closed and know we're also ready to open up as soon as possible."

The thrift store will resume regular business hours beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.
