Betty Jean Morgan
BLACKSBURG - Betty Jean Morgan, 72, of 330 Wilbur St., widow of Freddie Morgan, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at 5:45 p.m. at Upstate Carolina Medical Center, Gaffney.
Daughter of the late Elliehue Gaston and the late Laura Sutson Gaston, she was born Jan. 2, 1936, in Cherokee County. She was a member of Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a member of the Trustee Board, Morning Choir and Pastor's Aide. She was a retired employee of The City of New York Municipal Department.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Hall of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four granddaughters who were reared as her daughters, Betty Hall and Ciara Hall, both of the home, Veronica Harris (Bennie) of Gaffney and Tammie Hall of Bronx, N.Y.; a grandson who was reared as her son, Jessie Lorenzo Porchea` (Lisa) of Gaffney; three sisters, Ophelia Praziel, Annie Lorene Burris and Reverlee King (Bob), all of Blacksburg; two other grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her aunt, Elizabeth Parker (Shedward) of Bronx, N.Y.; and a host of other relatives.
Services will be held Friday, Aug. 22, at 3 p.m. at Youngs Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Smith and Dr. Larry J. Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Chapel Cemetery, Blacksburg. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
