Johnell Knuckles
COLUMBIA - Johnell Knuckles, 46, of 1850 Atlantic Drive, Unit 123, passed Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at 11:30 p.m., at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.
Son of Grace Knuckles Green and the late Carnell Knuckles, he was born on April 25,1962, in Cherokee County. He was a member of New Mount Zion Baptist Church in Gaffney and while living in Columbia, he attended Life Changing Ministry. He was a 1980 graduate of Gaffney High School and received a B.A. degree in social work with a minor in psychology from Limestone College in 1984. He was last employed as a foreman supervisor at Michelin Tire Company.
Mr. Knuckles was active in the community. He was a peer supporter of the Disabled Action Center DAC, president of the Traumatic Brain Injury Support Group, advisor of People on the GO, council member of Project Hope, Vice President of INPACTSC, member of South Carolina Developmental Disabilities Council, chairman of the South Carolina Partnership of Disabilities Organizations, and Friends of Richland Data Entry and Update of March 1999-June 2001 at Richland Memorial, all in Columbia, and others.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Chris Jamison, of Gaffney; a halfbrother, Leon Peak (Linette) of Gaffney; four sisters, Grace Wood, Nancy Ann Knuckles, Clint Pierson and Ethel Dawkins (Terry), all of Gaffney; five aunts, Marie Cunningham, Dorothy Sizemore, Bernice Fowler, all of Gaffney, Straucy Sippio of New Jersey and Luvena Harris of Baltimore, Md.; an uncle, Elder Sammie Logan of Norfolk, Va.; two great aunts, Willie Dawkins and Beddie Wood, both of Gaffney; six step-sisters, Annie Medley of Stratford, Conn., Mary Adams and Mattie Cobb (Leroy), both of Bridgeport, Conn., Yvonne Medley of Marietta, Ga., Edna Driessen (Ben) of Hilton Head Island and Helen Allen (Donald) of Raleigh, N.C.; a step-brother, Julius Camp (Mrs.. Camp) of Staftford, Connecticut; a special friend,Pricilla Bates of Gaffney; and a host of other relatives.
Service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 3 p.m. at New Mount Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Roger Mason and the Revs. Jeffrey Dawkins, Gert Thompson, Thaddeaus Cunningham and Robert Dover officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Gaffney High School Class of 1980.
The family is at the home of his mother, Grace Knuckles Green, 406 Marion Avenue, Gaffney.
