Mariel Mason

Formerly employed by T&F Grocery and McCraw Hardware

James Mariel Mason, 87, formerly of 206 Grace St., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Peachtree Centre.

Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Nellie Champion Mason and son of the late James M. Mason and Martha (Mattie) Sarratt Mason. He

was formerly employed with T&F

Grocery and Mc-

Craw Hardware. He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Mr. Mason was a member of the Kiwanis Club for 48 years and a lifetime member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

Surviving are a brother, Broadus Mason of Enoree; three sisters, Elizabeth Wright and Lucy Turner, both of Gaffney, and Edith Smarr of Gastonia, N.C.; two step-grandchildren, Derrick Kirby and Curtis Kirby; a sister-in-law, Ruth Weathers of Forest City, N.C.; and a special caregiver, Jan Rochester of Gaffney.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Mason was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Kirby, and a brother, Hugh Edwin Mason.

The family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 25, from 3-4 p.m. at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Services will immediately follow at 4 p.m. in the church with the Revs. Tommy Wright and Joe Turner officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, "Roofing Fund," 412 McKown's Mountain Road, Gaffney, S.C. 29340; or Hospice Care of South Carolina, 1612 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.
