County church softball league gearing up

The 2008 Cherokee County church softball league is open for those wishing to sign-up for this season.

Youth league will open for play Sept. 2. The deadline to signup is Aug. 25.

The league will take the first eight teams wanting to participate.

Games are played on Tuesday nights.

Separate leagues for men and women will open for play Sept. 4.

The first eight teams to signup will be given the chance to play in the league this year.

Games are held on Thursday nights.

Cost is $250 per team. Spots are limited.

Thunder Cats softball tryouts Aug. 30

The Carolina Thunder Cats Girls Fastpitch Softball Organization will be holding tryouts for the 2009 season Aug. 30, 2008.

The Carolina Thunder Cats is based out of Moore, and fields players from the Palmetto State and parts of North Carolina.

LC wrestling coach moves on

Limestone College Director of Athletics Mike Cerino has announced that Head Wrestling Coach Ben Stehura will be leaving Limestone College and that Assistant Coach Trent Goodale will assume head coaching duties.

Stehura recently accepted the head coaching position at NCAA Division I's Cleveland State University in Ohio. Goodale has been an assistant coach for the Saints since 2006.

Gaffney Middle football jamboree

Gaffney Middle School will host a football jamboree Wednesday at 5 p.m. Local middle schools will participate.
