The Cherokee County Public Library in Gaffney will host a performance by internationally known opera star Beverley Vanessa Hill on Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 12:15-1:15 p.m. A free lunch will be served
. The Henderson County Gem and Mineral Society will present its 26th annual Gem and Mineral Spectacular and Sale Aug. 29-Sept. 1. Hours will be Aug. 29-31 from 10 a.m. 6 p.m. and Sept. 1 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The event will be at the Whitmire Activity Building on Lily Pond Road in Hendersonville, N.C. Admission is $3 for adults; children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. All children 12 and under will receive a free grab bag of minerals.
Support groups
AA meetings are held at 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in the building behind Limestone Methodist Church on Carlisle Street. If you have a problem with alcohol, you are welcome to attend.
To find locations of Narcotics Anonymous meetings call 1-800-828-568. A group meets at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. (lit study) and Saturdays at 6 p.m. (open).

Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 and its Ladies Auxiliary will meet Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m.
The Senior Centers of Cherokee County will hold a craft show on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Booths will be $20, with booth rental fees going to the Blacksburg Senior Center Renovation Fund.
