Exhibit features unusual works by glass artisan

GREENVILLE - Pamela DeWitt, a founding member of the Artists Guild Gallery of Greenville, is being featured September 1-30 in a special show at the gallery, titled "Visual Layerings - Mixed Media on Crazed Glass."

DeWitt's crazed glass is unique to the area and really must be seen in person. It is a very detailed process using sheets of heat treated shattered glass, enhanced with transparent watercolors paints, and other mediums such as gold leaf, brass sheeting, fibers and natural mica.

Generosity abounds, as the artist will give away a door prize of a glass piece with a value of $185 at the opening reception on Friday, Sept. 5, from 6-9 p.m. She will also raffle off a piece during the month of September and show her award winning piece, "Vortex," which will be donated to an auction for Dining for Women.

DeWitt's show will also feature new abstracts, floral and landscape watercolor paintings. To celebrate her love of water, she teaches her techniques in watercolor classes at the Artists Guild Gallery, located at 200 N. Main St.

Over 25 area artists are represented in the gallery, with mediums including acrylic, mixed media, oil and watercolor paintings, jewelry, glass, woodwork and sculpture. One or more of the artists is in the gallery at all times, demonstrating throughout the day and always ready to discuss their art with visitors.

The Artists Guild Gallery is open daily Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sunday from 1-5 p.m.; and Thursday and Friday evenings until 9. For more information, phone 864.239.3882.
