BHS jayvees fall to Liberty

The Blacksburg junior varsity couldn't turn their scoring chances into points Thursday in a 16-6 loss to Liberty in the season opener.

Liberty was given a short field in the first quarter after recovering a fumble and intercepting a pass by Blacksburg quarterback Vince Tharpe. Liberty rushed for touchdowns following each turnover to take a 16-0 lead in the first quarter.

Wide receiver Ty Davis scored on a 65 yard pass from Tharpe to cut the lead to 16-6 in the second quarter. Both teams were held scoreless in the second half.

"Our kids played their hearts out," Blacksburg junior varsity coach Tyrone McGill said. "We had several chances to score. We just couldn't execute."
