Second Shindig Sept. 4

Make plans now to attend the next Shindig in Downtown Gaffney, which will be on Thursday, September 4th featuring "The New Familiars" with opening act, Alan Barrington. The concert will begin at 6:00 p.m., but come on down to the cabin early to get a good seat and to enjoy delicious food served up by local vendors.

Alan Barrington calls South Carolina home, but has toured the country extensively, performing his unique sound of acoustic blues and new folk music.

Barrington's musical career began to take shape in the 1980's, with his cd single, "Old Age." This single was released by Maranatha Records, aired in the US and Canada, and featured such names as Leon Patillo of Santana and Poco's Richie Furay. Since then, Barrington has released two albums — "Good Wood" in 1998, and the 2007 release of "Looking for a Novel."

The Charlotte Observer describes Barrington's work as "introspective, sometimes delicate, full of personal observations and emotional sketches." For more information about Alan Barrington, visit his website at www.Alan- Barrington.com.

Justin Fedor, Pat Maholland, Eric-Scott Guthrie and Josh Daniel—also known as "The New Familiars" will take to the Gaffney Cabin stage on the evening of September 4.

Since 2006, this talented group of four has combined well-blended harmonies with traditional instruments such as banjo, mandolin, resonator guitar and harmonica. The style of the group is an interesting mix of folk-core music from the foothills, acoustic, folk rock and Americana— producing a sound that is pure and truly unique.

"The New Familiars" have released three albums. On their latest album, "The Storm," the group has put a new spin on the Smokey Robinson classic, "My Girl." Other albums released by the quartet are "The Black Rose" and "The Red Rose."

Tracy Will from the Trackside Diner, Capri, and Al Davis Amusements will again provide a wonderful selection of food, including fresh grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fixings, nachos, peanuts, popcorn, colas, lemonade, and other "goodies".
