Officer injured in Sunday morning accident

By SCOTT POWELL Ledger Staff Writer spowell@gaffneyledger.com

A Cherokee County Sheriff's Office deputy was injured early Sunday after his police cruiser struck a utility pole.

Deputy Steven Bright was driving on Granard Street at 12:49 a.m. when the accident occurred at South Logan and Granard streets near Highway

29 in Gaffney. Janna Sprouse, 18, of Gaffney, attempted to make a left turn onto Logan Street when her 2006 Dodge Charger struck the left front of a patrol car driven by Bright, said Lance Cpl. Jeff Gaskin of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The impact caused Bright to lose control of his vehicle and strike a utility pole, Gaskin said.

Bright was treated and released at Upstate Carolina Medical Center, a hospital spokesperson said Sunday afternoon. Sprouse was not injured.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol sent out a Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) to the accident scene.

No charges are pending, Gaskin said. The Highway Patrol is still investigating.
