Alice Bonner Greene

Retired school teacher

CHESNEE - Alice Elizabeth Bonner Greene, 85, of 724 Cliffside Hwy., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Eden Terrace.

Born Dec. 12, 1922, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late James Randolph Bonner and Dovie Hines Bonner. She was the loving widow of Joe Charles Greene Sr.

A graduate of Winthrop College, she was a retired teacher from Spartanburg County School District Two, having provided 35 years of faithful service to students in the New Prospect, Chesnee and Mayo communities. An eternally faithful Christian, she was always a regular attending member of both Piedmont and State Line Baptist churches, having served as pianist, organist and teacher, as well as being a perpetually active member in the WMU.

She is survived by a son, Joe Charles Greene II of Chesnee; a brother, Thomas Wilton Bonner of Chesnee; two sisters-in-law, Velma Bonner of Omaha, Neb., and Madge Ezell of Chesnee; as well as nieces and nephews, Flora Alice Powell of Chesnee, Linda Bonnette of Morehead City, N.C., Vernon Bonner and Randy Bonner, both of Sumter.

Services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 4 p.m. at State Line Baptist Church with the Revs. Darrell Revels and Joey Cantrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, Sept. 1, from 6-8 p.m. at Eggers Funeral Home of Chesnee.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

The family will be at the home of a niece, Flora Powell, 1449 Fish Camp Road, Chesnee.
