John Raymond Clary

SALUDA, N.C. - John Raymond Clary, 88, formerly of Gaffney, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Autumn Care.

Born in Cherokee County, Mr. Clary was a son of the late John Ellison and Lilly

Keenan Clary. He

was a World War II

Army and Air Force veteran, serving in the 34th Infantry Division and in three separate campaigns.

Mr. Clary was a retired pharmacist, a former member of the Gaffney Civitan Club, a former member and deacon at Limestone Presbyterian Church in Gaffney and a current member and former elder of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Landrum. Mr. Clary may be most recently remembered as the former owner of "Curiosity Corner."

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Vaughan Clary; two sisters, Margaret Johnson of Summerville and Elizabeth "Libby" Cuomo of Charleston; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Clary was preceded in death by two brothers, James Harold Clary and Paul Ray Clary; a half sister, Verna Blanton; and four half brothers, Alvin Clary, Troy Clary, Niles Clary and Albert Clary.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. in Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney, conducted by the Rev. Dave Oliphant with military honors by the S.C. State Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, N.C., 28722; or to the charity of one's choice.
