Davis CAVA September Member of Month

Mac Lee Davis is the CAVA Member of the Month for September. Mac Lee Davis is the CAVA Member of the Month for September. Mac Lee Davis has been chosen as Cherokee Alliance of Visual Arts's Member of the Month for September.

Davis has always loved to draw and says a Gaffney High School art teacher was a tremendous inspiration in developing not only his drawing techniques but also in building his self-esteem. After graduating, he joined the Air Force and spent the next four years traveling. He continued his travels while he worked for 25 years with Pitney Bowes.

Having been raised in rural Cherokee County, Davis says his first love in art was drawing wildlife. His interest has included many subjects with a special emphasis on renderings of local historic buildings. One of his most recent works is a large drawing of the Winnie Davis Hall at Limestone College.

"Limestone College has contributed so much to the City of Gaffney over the years, that I wanted to do my part to help restore the history of this building," Davis said.

Davis donated the original drawing to the college and prints to sell have been made to help raise funds for the restoration of this historical Southern gem. Prints may be purchased from Moses Wood Camp 125 Sons of Confederate Veterans, CAVA and Limestone College.

Any original artwork done by Davis is usually upon request.
