Miss Turnage, Mr. Butterbaugh speak vows

MRS. IAN SCOTT BUTTERBAUGH (CAROLINE LAROCHE TURNAGE) MRS. IAN SCOTT BUTTERBAUGH (CAROLINE LAROCHE TURNAGE) Caroline LaRoche Turnage of Gaffney and Ian Scott Butterbaugh of Spartanburg were united in marriage on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at The Episcopal Church of the Advent in Spartanburg. The Rev. Roy W. Cole officiated the 7 p.m. double ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. Beverley Duncan Burn-Turnage of Gaffney and Dr. Louis Westfield Turnage Jr. of Spartanburg. Her grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. William Augustine Burn Jr. who resided in Rock Hill and the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Westfield Turnage Sr. who lived in Hartsville. The bride's godparents are the her aunt, Elizabeth LaRoche Burn of Houston, Texas; her uncle, Michael Bishop Burn of Greenville; and Donna Marie Stratford of Gaffney.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Alan Butterbaugh of Cowpens. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jerrold Earl Boundy of Columbus, Ohio; Robert Earl McClure of Worthington, Ohio; and the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wesley Butterbaugh who resided in Elkhart, Ind.

After a wedding trip to Lake Michigan and Makinaw Island, the couple will make their home in Overland Park, Kansas.

A 2002 Camellia Society debutante, the bride is a 2002 graduate of The Spartanburg Day School. She received a B.A. magna cum laude in Mathematics and French in 2006 from Wofford College, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She received a Master's of Art in Mathematics from Wake Forest University in 2008 and is an upper school mathematics teacher at The Pembroke Hill School in Kansas City, Mo.

The groom graduated in 2003 from Dorman High School and received a B.S. in Experimental Psychology in 2007 from USC Upstate, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He is pursuing a Master's of Science in General Psychology at Avila University in Kansas City, Mo., and is employed by Avila University and Mission Repair in Olathe, Kansas.

Following the ceremony, the bride's parents were hosts for a reception dinner at The Piedmont Club. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bishop Burn of Greenville, aunt and uncle of the bride; Dr. William Augustine Burn III of Irmo, uncle of the bride; and Teresa Scott and Scott Michael McClure of Gambier, Ohio, aunt and uncle of the groom.

Dr. Brennan Dale Szafron of Spartanburg was the organist. His selections included "Minuet" (from Berenice), George Frederic Handel; "Sheep May Safely Graze," Johann Sebastian Bach; "Trumpet Tune," Henri Purcell; and "Fugue in G Minor" BWV542b, Johann Sebastian Bach. Following the ceremony, the bells in the church tower were pealed by Justin Curry Davis of Inman, carillonneur

The altar and baptismal font in the sanctuary were adorned with white roses, blue and white hydrangeas, and greenery. The altar flowers were given to the Glory of God and in loving memory of the bride and groom's deceased grandparents. The reserved pews were appointed with white roses, small white orchids, and greenery wrapped with French ivory satin ribbon. The entrance pews were appointed with pew torches.

The Crucifer was William Augustine Burn IV. Lectors were Scott Michael McClure of Gambier, Ohio, uncle of the groom, and Michael Bishop Burn of Greenville, uncle of the bride. Program attendants were Katelyn Elizabeth Burn and Matthew Bishop Burn of Greenville, cousins of the bride.

The bride gave herself freely with the love and support of her family. During the processional she was escorted by her mother and her father. She was attired in an Amsale ivory silk with satin finish strapless gown with a fitted bodice and natural waistline accented by a champagne silk taffeta sash. The full Aline skirt flowed into a chapel-length train. The knotted sash fell to the floor, highlighting the back of the gown. The bride's chapel veil of French silk tulle was sparingly accented with scattered ivory seed pearls. She carried a hand-tatted handkerchief which belonged to her great grandmother, Florence LaRoche Burn, who resided on Younges Island, S.C. The handkerchief was a gift from the bride's great aunt, Margaret Burn Dougherty of Stafford, Va.

The bride carried a cascade bouquet of woven small white orchids hand-wrapped with ivory French satin ribbon and pearl pins.

Elizabeth Seabrook Turnage and Katherine Cannon Turnage of Gaffney, younger twin sisters of the bride, were maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Callie Elizabeth Bagwell of Woodruff, Jacque Shurburtt Burkhead of Spartanburg, Emily Duncan Burn of Columbia, cousin of the bride, Dawn Celeste Harmon of Spartanburg and Jayne Alyssa Wilmont of Columbia. Honorary bridesmaid was Katelyn Elizabeth Burn of Greenville, cousin of the bride

The bridesmaids wore different styled gowns of truffle brown satin. They carried bouquets of white roses and blue hydrangeas handwrapped with brown French satin ribbon and pearl pins.

The groom was attended by his father, Scott Alan Butterbaugh, and his brother, Alex Joseph Butterbaugh, both of Cowpens, as best men. Groomsmen were William Edward de Borde Jr. of Gaffney, Daniel Scott Gomes of Spartanburg, Steven David Parodi of Rock Hill, George Dean Thompson of Somerville, Mass., and Louis Westfield Turnage III of Spartanburg, brother of the bride.

Ushers were Andrew Murphy Davis of Campobello, Quentin Russell Parker of Lake Village, Ind., Aaron Tyler Yager and Justin Scott Yager of Charlotte, N.C., stepbrothers of the bride.

After the wedding rehearsal, the groom's parents hosted a dinner at Justin's in Spartanburg.

A bridal luncheon was given by Sandra Burn, aunt of the bride, at Twigs Tempietto in Greenville.

A bridal shower was given by Elizabeth and Katherine Turnage of Gaffney, Callie Bagwell of Woodruff and Ellen Bagwell of Spartanburg at Mrs. Bagwell's home.

Abachelorette shower and party was hosted by Callie Bagwell of Woodruff at her home.

A cocktail party was given by Kim and Wes Turnage of Spartanburg, father and stepmother of the bride, at their home.
