'Lost Fox Farm' can be found in Gaffney Friday night
Members of Lost Fox Farm include Alan Smith, Justin Orr, Chip Powell and Clint Powell. They will be making their first appearance as a band in Gaffney on Friday. Lost Fox Farm technically isn't lost since the four members know exactly where they are.
The only real uncertainty, is where the band might be headed.
The band, which includes two Gaffney residents and a Gaffney native, has been keeping up a busy schedule of play dates in the Spartanburg area, making repeat visits to several night spots and attracting a growing number of fans.
On Friday night, they'll be making their first appearance as a band in Gaffney, as they lined up a play date at Benna's Sports Club off West Floyd Baker Boulevard. Their show is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m.
Bass player Alan Smith, who works for the U.S. Post Office in Gaffney during the dayss, said the group has a play list of 20 original songs and they do covers of groups and other artists like Jack Johnson, Widespread Panic and the Allman Brothers.
"We're hard to describe," he said with a laugh, "an acoustic rock, bluesy feel."
Smith is joined in the group by Justin Orr of Gaffney and Clint Powell of Boiling Springs, who both share duty on rhythm guitar, vocals and percussion. Lead guitar is provided by Chip Powell, a Gaffney native living in Boiling Springs.
There's no drum kit on the stage, as the percussion is provided on conga drums.
"They (the congas) really give us a different sound," Smith said.
The two Powells, who are not related, and Orr have been playing together for many years while Smith joined the group in June.
Smith said he's been enjoying the experience despite his already busy schedule. In addition to his postal worker duties, he's a dad, a reservist in the Air National Guard, and a performing magician.
The group has been making repeat appearances at several Spartanburg-area night spots and restaurants including Sonny's Brick Oven Pizza, PJ's and Delaney's.
Smith said the group is hoping to get into a professional recording studio in the near future to make their first album.
