Emma (Jean) Barnhill
Retired school food service supervisor for Cherokee County School District
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Paul D. Barnhill and daughter of the late M. Raymond Robbs and Lorena Perry Robbs. She was a retired school food service supervisor for the Cherokee County School District and was a member of Draytonville Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member and actively participated on many church committees. Mrs. Barnhill was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the American Red Cross, a member of the Eastern Star and the Gaffney Garden Club. She also served on the Board of Appalachian Council of Government Services to the Aging. Surviving are two sons, Charles Raymond Barnhill and special friend, Debbie Graves, and Howard Barnhill and wife, Janice, all of Gaffney; a daughter, Paula Jean Barnhill Marett of Gaffney; four grandchildren, Chad Marett and wife, Rachel, of Gaffney, Chan Crisp and husband, Todd, of Kings Mountain, Josh Barnhill and wife, Stephanie, of Campobello and Cort Marett and wife, Kristi, of Belton; three greatgrandchildren, Dawn Marett, Lawson Marett and Oliver Marett; a brother, Herbert Robbs of Gaffney; and a sister, Marjorie Steadman of Gaffney. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Barnhill was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorena Cothran and Katie Miller. Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 7, from 1-2 p.m. at Draytonville Baptist Church. Services followed at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Mike Frazier and Ron Jackson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, S.C. 29342; or Hospice Care of South Carolina, 1612 N.
