Geneva Wood

Geneva Kate Wood, 84, of 208 Blalock Lane, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at her home.

Born in Cherokee County, she was the widow of William Lester Watterson Jr. and daughter of the late C.S. Wood and Sallie P. Wood. She was retired from Abbott Laboratories of Spartanburg and was of the Baptist faith. She also attended Limestone College and the University of South Carolina.

She is survived by three sons, Craig Watterson and wife, LuAnn, of Gaffney, Drew Powell and wife, Mary Kay, of Mauldin and Bill Watterson III and wife, Donna, of North Carolina; a daughter, Karen Varner and husband, Roger of Spartanburg; 11 grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; a sister, Guyulla Linder and husband, Roland, of Spartanburg and a half sister, Mary Brady of Spartanburg.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lilly Beam.

Graveside services will be held Monday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. James Humphries.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Cherokee County Unit, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, S.C. 29615; or Upstate South Carolina Chapter, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 37 Villa Road, Suite 109 (B-111) Greenville, S.C. 29615.
