Saints blank Catawba 4-0

The Saints soccer team improved to 4-0 this season with a 5-1 win over Catawba College on Saturday afternoon. Tom Beattie recorded two goals and an assist in the victory.

Limestone's Ali Benson scored the first goal just seconds into the first half. Keegan Ziada and Beattie were credited with the assists. Michael McEmerson put the Saints up 2-0 late in the second half off a feed from Ziada.

In the 60th minute, Andrew Kennedy played a through ball to Beattie, who had two touches before he finished for the team's third goal. Catawba responded four minutes later with their only point of the contest. Beattie answered the Indians' goal with his second score of the day in the 66th minute off a pass from Joel Moran. Tom Morris gave Limestone the 5-1 victory off a corner kick from McEmerson.

Patriot QB hurts knee

Tom Brady went from the disappointment of a Super Bowl loss to the devastation of an injury that could keep him out for the rest of the season.

After missing the entire preseason with an unspecified foot injury, Brady left Sunday's season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs in the first quarter after being hit on the left leg by Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard. Coach Bill Belichick provided no information on the injury, but Pollard had a diagnosis of his own.

"He was in a lot of pain," he said. "When you hear a scream, you know that."

Various reports Sunday night said Belichick told the players that the injury was serious.

Bears top Colts, 29-13

Chicago's old formula got a new look Sunday night.

It still works.

The Bears relied on a strong running game to control the clock, scored on a turnover and took advantage of an Indianapolis offense that was out of sync, beating the Colts 29-13 in the first regular season game at the new Lucas Oil Stadium.
