Meetings

The Gaffney Business and Professional Women's Club will meet Monday, Sept. 15, at 6:30 p. m. at the House of Pizza. Elizabeth McDaniel and Amanda Knowles will speak about highlights of their trip to the BPW/USA National Convention that was held recently in Atlanta. Guests and prospective new members are welcome. Friends of Antioch will meet Saturday, Sept. 13, at Antioch Church fellowship hall in Blacksburg from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the fellowship.

The Cherokee County Public Library Board of Directors will meet Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 4 p.m.

Gospel concerts

The Rogers, Leabron and Betty Jo, will be having their second anniversary sing on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church, 1184 Rock Springs Church Road, Blacksburg. Special guests will be Gospel Way of Granite Falls, N.C. Refreshments will be served following the service. For more information or directions, call 864-839-6792. The Gateway Trio of Hickory, N.C., will be performing Saturday Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Chesnee Gospel Music Center, 672 Greenlake Road, Chesnee. For information, call 828-223-1514.

Special events

Kirby Memorial Baptist Church will have a classic car show, barbecue and auction on Saturday, Sept. 13, beginning at 7 a.m. with proceeds going to South Asia missions. Bring your antique/classic, street rod, custom car, show truck, or bike. Trophies will be awarded at noon; barbecue plates will be available at 11 a.m.; and an auction will start at 1 p.m. For more information, call John Browning at 489-2227.

Church news

Central Baptist Church will be celebrate homecoming on Sunday, Sept. 14. Worship will begin at 11 a.m. and guest speaker will be Derek "Duck" McAbee. There will be a meal following the service. Everyone is welcome. A special singing featuring His Forever will begin at 2 p.m. For information, call 489-1604.

Youth Day services will be held Sunday, Sept. 14, during the 11 a.m. worship service at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Thomas E. Massey, Jr., Associate Minister of Harrison Grove Baptist Church, Walnut Grove, will be the speaker.

Victory Baptist Church of Gaffney is sponsoring a tent revival Sept. 15-19 at 7 p.m. Speakers will be Billy Elder and Dr. Greg Little. The tent is located to the right of Wal- Mart and behind Jameson Inn on Floyd Baker Boulevard.

The Senior Choir of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 110th anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Randolph Hawkins, pastor of Piney Grove Baptist Church, Lyman.

The adult choir of Allen Temple CME Church will celebrate its 47th anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 6 p.m.

The Dunton United Methodist Church Women will have a yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 7 a.m. until noon in the church fellowship hall (come to the back of the church). Various items and clothing will be available. The church is located at 323 E. Buford St. (across from the old CVS Drug Store).

A new young adult class is being offered at Southside Baptist Church. The class begins at 6:45 p.m. in the church's Family Life Center, 204 W. O'Neal St., and deals with issues and concerns of young adults, especially couples. There is no cost and child care will be provided. The Shady Grove Baptist Church Youth Ministry will have its monthly Youth Day service on Sunday, Sept. 14, during morning worship. The Youth Day service speaker will be Minister Donnie Allen, Associate Minister of Suck Creek Baptist Church. The Shady Grove Intermediate Class will be in charge of all activities beginning with Sunday School at 9:45. The Shady Grove Youth Singers will provide special music. Schlonda Hawk and Mary Jones are the Intermediate Class teachers and program coordinators.

North East Fellowship Church of God, 200 Elm St., will have revival services Sept. 14-17. Sunday services are at 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.; Monday through Wednesday services will be at 7 p.m. Evangelist Mac Gilliam will be the guest speaker.

The Boyz Choir of Island Creek Baptist Church, 2112 Battleground Road, Cowpens, will celebrate its anniversary Sunday, Sept. 14, at 3:30 p.m. with a singing program. Various groups are scheduled to be on hand.

Junior Missionaries and Advisors of the Thickety Mountain Baptist Association will rehearse for their Baptist Week program Saturday, Sept. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Thickety Mountain Baptist Association Building, 1505 Old Post Road.

The Shady Grove Baptist Church Music Ministry will have a Hymn Choir Music Festival and Fellowship Service on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m. There will be a variety of music and groups on program. Scheduled to appear are the Mt. Zion Hymn Choir of Hickory Grove, Do-Re-Mi Note Choir of Fosters Chapel Church and The Harrison Grove Do-Re-Mi Note Choir, both of Roebuck, St. Peter Hymn Choir of Grover, The United Gospel Pearls, WSPA television celebrity Brother Joe Brown and the famous Melonaires of Gaffney, The Shady Grove Hymn Choir, The Shady Grove Gospel Choir, and The Shady Grove Praise Singers. Emcee will be the Rev. W.T. Lewis of Spartanburg.

South Carolina Department of Transportation maintenance crews in Cherokee County will be out in full force this month, picking up litter from along sections of highways throughout the county. On Sept. 11, the crews will pick up litter from SC-11, US-29, SC- 150, SC-18, SC-5, US-221 and US-221A.
