Crossing signal's safety bar blocks train
Norfolk Southern train engineers had to creep through the City of Gaffney at a snail's pace Monday afternoon after a motorist took out one of the railroad crossing signals on Frederick Street.
According to a report from Gaffney Police Department, the driver of a 1996 Chevrolet Truck towing a utility trailer was passing through the railroad crossing when the safety bar came down and hung onto the rear of the trailer.
The safety bar, which is designed to block traffic while trains are passing through, was torn from signal post and was laying across the tracks.
The train passing through at the time had to come to a complete stop near the T-bridge until engineers could determine the problem and clear the damaged safety bar from the tracks.
