Holly Ridge offering 2-day conference on church discipline

Jeff Noblit Jeff Noblit BLACKSBURG - Have you noticed obvious immorality in many people who call themselves Christians, such as what Paul mentioned in 1 Corinthians 5? Why are there commands in the Bible for God's people to be holy and distinct, yet many who claim the name of Christ live in open rebellion against such commands? Why are there people who have joined a church but never attend any service? In view of such questions, we must also ask ourselves, "What about the passages that speak of judging others?"

One great means of grace that many churches today neglect is the biblical and loving practice of church discipline. Holly Ridge Baptist Church is offering a free conference specifically on the topic of church discipline on Monday, Oct. 20, and Tu e s d a y, Oct. 21, from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. each day. The speaker will be Brother Jeff Noblit, senior pastor of Grace Life Church of the Shoals (recently known as First Baptist Church) in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Biblical church discipline is not the Salem witch trials that most people think of when they hear of church discipline. Church discipline is much more than removing someone from the membership of a church just because he or she does not agree with the majority of the church. Our Lord outlined church discipline in Matthew 18:15- 20. Church discipline, specifically corrective discipline, always has for its aim the glory of God, the welfare and purity of the church, and the restoration and spiritual growth of the offender.

Pastors and key church leaders are encouraged to attend the conference; however, the meetings are open to everyone. An offering will be taken each nights to offset the costs of the conference. Good books about church discipline and other topics will be for sale. Some free materials will be available.

For more information and to register, visit www.hollyridgebc. com or call Robert at (864) 490-2415. If you plan to attend, register early because seating is limited.
