Water coming

A modern-day amenity most people take for granted is getting closer for people in a rural Cherokee County community.

An engineering agreement was finalized in August for Phase III of the 99 Mile Island Road waterline extension project, Board of Public Works General Manager Donnie Hardin told his commissioners on Tuesday.

Instead of relying on wells, about 38 residents who reside along sections of Batchler Drive, Moss Road and 99 Mile Island Road will receive public water.

Hardin said the construction phase of the project will likely begin in January.

The Board typically waives its fees for residents who qualify by household income for the free taps. This project is no exception, Hardin said.

The project is funded through a community block grant.
