      Chase Hames offered one piece of advice to his teammates before practice started for Friday's game against Chesnee. Play faster. "I'm always going full speed so I can get better for the next team," Hames said. "I asked all the receivers if they could go faster this week. It will help me get used to the speed so I can step up and make more plays.

The Blacksburg Wildcats (0-3) beating Chesnee might not fall into that category. But first-year Blacksburg coach Mickey Moss knows his team must elevate its play significantly to beat the host Eagles today.

Chiefs, Warriors roll in openers

      Shaquille Davidson scored twice and O'brian Davidson caught a touchdown pass and returned an interception for a score to help the Gaffney Middle School Chiefs to an impressive 44-6 victory over Whitlock on Wednesday. Quan Weeks and Joe Goode each had a rushing touchdown for the Chiefs, who improve to 1-0.

Lacey Gardner served seven aces and Cameron Crocker led the team in kills to lead the Lady Indians to a convincing 25-22, 25-16, 25-15 victory over Spartanburg and avenging a season-opening loss to their longtime rivals.
