Militia get their day at Mugrove Mills war site

CLINTON - A Revolutionary War re-enactment unit will help present a program on the role of the backcountry militia at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Musgrove Mill State Historic Site.

The program will provide a look at the major role that loosely organized militia played in slowing the British advance on the South Carolina frontier during the Revolutionary War.

This living history event will feature the South Carolina Rangers' re-enactment unit portraying the lifestyle, arms, equipment and strategy used by the militia in engagement like the Battle of Musgrove's Mill in August, 1780.

The program is part of the South Carolina State Park Service's 75th anniversary celebration.

There is no charge for the event.

Musgrove Mill State Historic site is located on S.C. 56, between Clinton and Cross Anchor and not far from I-26.

For more information, contact the park, 864-938-0100; e-mail brobson@scprt.com or go to www.SouthCarolinaParks.com.
