Gaffney jayvees top Spartanburg

The Gaffney High junior varsity volleyball team beat Spartanburg on Thursday, 25-12, 25-11.

Stormy Peeler and Claire Bradly served well.

Gaffney improves to 4-0.

Gaffney freshman shut out Union

The Gaffney ninth-grade football team improved to 3-1 with a 42-0 victory over Union on Thursday.

Robert Grandy and Joey Copeland each scored twice and "Wookie" Littlejohn had a touchdown. Damian Jeter scored on a pair of 2-point conversions.

Edward Bigsby also returned an interception for a touchdown.

Saints top Belmont Abbey in OT

Limestone's Michael McEmerson picked up his second straight game-winning goal, scoring in overtime to give the Saints a 3-2 victory against Belmont Abbey. McEmerson, who scored the golden goal in the Saints' win against UNC-Pembroke on Wednesday, scored two goals in Saturday's contest.

McEmerson put the Saints up 1- 0 in the 37th minute as he beat the goalkeeper for a goal. Keegan Ziada picked up the assist.

Belmont Abbey tied the game in the 68th minute with a goal from Julian Ballesteros. Limestone regained the lead after a corner kick by Ziada. Dominic Casciato flicked the ball to Tom Beattie for the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute.

Overtime only lasted about five minutes as Beattie played the ball up the field to McEmerson. McEmerson scored with 4:19 left in overtime for the 3-2 win.

Crusaders edge Lady Saints

Belmont Abbey edged Limestone College 1-0 in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.

The Crusaders' Rebecca Mateo scored the game's lone goal in the 40th minute. Her high shot bounced off the top of the crossbar, down, and across the goal line.

Lady Saints lose 3-2

UNC Pembroke freshman outside hitter Allie Schneider racked up 14 kills to lead the Braves past Limestone College 3-2 (25-10, 19- 25, 26-24, 19-25, 15-13) on day two of the 2008 Wingate Classic Saturday afternoon.

The Braves improve to 6-6, Limestone falls to 4-6.

Rice injures right knee

Former Gaffney High and South Carolina star wide receiver Sidney Rice injured his right knee in Minnesota's game with Indianapolis on Sunday.

Another former Gaffney High product had a better day as Roger McIntosh had three tackles and an assist to help Washington beat New Orleans, 29-24 on Sunday.

Gallman finishes in tie for fourth

Former Gaffney High standout Josh Gallman shot 70-70 to finish 2-under par to help his USC Upstate men's golf team to a second place finish at the Rutgers Invitational on Sunday.

The Spartans had a six-stroke lead after the first round but Seton Hall rallied with a 279 to erase the deficit.

Gallman finished in a tie for fourth place.
