Take-charge Davidson leads exposive offense

By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Sports Editor larry@gaffneyledger.com

"My job is to lead and I try to do that the best I can." - Bo Davidson "My job is to lead and I try to do that the best I can." - Bo Davidson Gaffney quarterback Bo Davidson smiled a lot after Friday's win over Union.

It's easy to see why.

Davidson was a perfect 8 for 8 through the air for 79 yards. He rushed for 83 more, including a 57- yard touchdown, in the Indians' most impressive offensive showing of the young season.

Davidson said he's becoming more at ease with the new no-huddle offense.

"I'm feeling better every week," he said. "I sit down and watch film to check my reads."

Davidson was particularly impressive on the team's opening drive, converting three third downs with pinpoint passes to Emison Hughes and Josh Woods. Hughes finished with five receptions for 64 yards.

Davidson also found Phillip Humphries three times for 32 yards.

But Davidson said the game plan was to run the ball right at the center of the Union defense.

"We wanted to go out there and play smash mouth football," he said. "We came out early and hurt them. We saw we could run up the middle."

Davidson showed off his running skills on a 57-yard touchdown early in the second quarter.

"I made a cut and saw daylight and just kept running," he said.

Although the offense struggled in the first two games, Davidson said the unit executed well against the Yellow Jackets.

"This is by far the best offense we've played," he said. "We feel more comfortable every week. We are finally clicking, but we are still making unnecessary penalties."

Davidson, who had been alternating at quarterback, took the vast majority of the snaps before the reserves entered the game. Davidson said he relishes the role of becoming the full-time starter.

"I feel comfortable with it," Davidson said. "My job is to lead and I try to do that the best I can."
