ARC offering disaster kit classes The American Red Cross is sponsoring a Home Disaster Preparedness Kit class for senior citizens. The classes will show seniors what should be inside their disaster kits at home. Possessing a well-stocked disaster kit can make the difference between life and death if the unthinkable happens. Through the generous partnership of Buford Street Drugs/Ace Hardware, Cracker Barrel, Daddy Joe's, Bojangles and Applebee's, the Red Cross has battery-powered radios, smoke detectors and clean new gallon and half-gallon jugs to hold vital water to give away to seniors attending. Seniors may attend either of the following classes: Friday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. until noon at the Blacksburg Senior Center or Friday, Sept. 26, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Gaffney Senior Center. Although the class is designed for senior citizens, anyone in the community who wishes to learn more about creating a home disaster kit is welcome to attend.
