Profits from the auction will help purchase Christmas gifts for the residents. Peachtree Centre volunteer Chester Spencer brought in a large present when it came time for this year's Christmas fundraiser.
Spencer donated a handmade cabinet for a silent auction that begins Wednesday, Sept. 17. The public can bid on the cabinet, a white rocker, a sterling silver byzantine necklace, an ipod video speaker system, a dollhouse, a 48-inch ceiling fan and other items until Saturday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m.
Winners will be announced Saturday at Peachtree's Fun Day. The festivities begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m.
Peachtree uses profits from the annual event to provide Christmas gifts its residents, Peachtree Centre administrator Cindy Matthews said.
"Elvis" will be in the building, courtesy of J.D. Philbeck, while a bluegrass band, petting zoo and children's rides offer fun for the young and young-at-heart.
Families will need to purchase a $5 bracelet for their children to enjoy the rides. Local churches have their best cooks putting together tasty desserts for a bake sale.
"The desserts go quickly," Matthews said. "If you want a dessert, you need to get to get here early."
Godfrey's Auction House, Performance Sports, Progress Lighting Dr. Wellmon and Wal-Mart are among the local businesses that have donated auction items to support the fundraiser.
The event offers Peachtree residents an opportunity to enjoy being outside.
"The residents go out on the porch to eat, listen to the music and enjoy watching the kids," Matthews said. "It's really become an inter-generational event for the residents and the community."
