$450,000 paving project completed

      The state Department of Transportation has finished the Limestone Street resurfacing project months ahead of schedule. Workers began to resurface a stretch of Limestone Street from O'Neal Street to Meadow Street on July 28., The project was substantially completed Monday.

Little-known disease getting some attention

      Little is known about mitochondrial disorders aside from its debilitating effects on one in 4,000 children in the United States. Claiming their sight and hearing, patients often also experience gastrointestinal problems, seizures and developmental delays, defects making it difficult for their transition into adulthood.

Littlejohn family has been getting together for 55 years

      Some came from as far away as Connecticut while some came from just a few blocks away. Now in its 55th year, the Littlejohn Family Reunion has been an annual tradition in Gaffney for dozens of members of an extended family that has spread across the country. The latest reunion attracted about 160 members of the family to Granard Middle School this past weekend.

American Community Bank sold

      For the second time this year, North Carolina-based Yadkin Valley Financial Corp. has acquired another bank. But this time, it will affect Cherokee County residents. Yadkin Valley Financial has agreed to acquire American Community Bancshares Inc. and its American Community Bank subsidiary, which operates three branches here.

Restaurants robbed
      The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the armed robbery of a restaurant. According to police, three robbers entered the Mr. Waffle on Hampshire Drive just after 11 p.m. on Sept. 15, brandished handguns and took an estimated $500 from the register. No injuries were reported.

'Fall Classic Car Show' returns Saturday
      The annual Fall Classic Car Show to benefit the Cherokee County History and Arts Museum returns this Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the historic mustering grounds of the S.C. Militia at the museum at 301 College Drive.
