Donald Sidney ("Sid") Haton Jr. SHELBY - Donald Sidney ("Sid") Haton Jr., 45, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008. Mr. Haton was the director of athletic bands and an instructor of music at Gardner Webb University. He was also the music director at Buford Street United Methodist Church in Gaffney and a pianist with numerous jazz, classical and rock ensembles. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of South Carolina and did doctoral work at the University of Georgia in Athens. He was a member of Phi Mu Alpha. Sid was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, friend and educator. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Sydney Brown; his parents, the Rev. Donald and Eleanor Haton; his sister, Donna Sears and her children, Chelsea, Zoe and Lindsey; his father- and mother-in-law, Fred and Linda Brown; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Whitney Brown, and their children, Bryce, Adam and Ethan. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 3 p.m. at Boiling Springs Baptist Church. Visitation was held in the church Family Life Center from 1 to 2:45 p.m. before the service.
