LC player earns POW honors

Limestone College's Michael McEmerson was named Conference Carolinas men's soccer Player of the Week, as released by the league office on Tuesday.

McEmerson had two game-winning goals last week to help the No. 13-ranked Saints maintain a perfect record of 6-0.

McEmerson scored the game winner in the Saints' 1-0 win against UNC-Pembroke on Wednesday. He went on to score two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, in Limestone's 3-2 Conference Carolinas victory against Belmont Abbey on Saturday.

Despite missing the first two matches of the season with an injury, McEmerson already has 9 points on four goals and one assist in four appearances this season. He also scored the game-winning goal against Catawba on September 6.

The Saints, who were ranked No. 18 in last week's NSCAA/adidas national poll, moved up to No. 13.

Limestone is currently No. 2 in the NSCAA Southeast regional rankings as Tusculum holds the top slot.

Nation Ford top GHS swimmers

In a swim meet at Fort Mill Tuesday, Nation Ford topped Gaffney High School by a combined score of 246-83.

In the boys' competion, Nation Ford beat Gaffney, 135-31. The girls' results also were lopsided with Nation Ford coming out on top 111-52.

First-place finishes for Gaffney included CarolAnn Prange (100 Butterfly) and Keri Bloomer (100 Back Stroke).

The following Gaffney swimmers posted times in consideration for the state meet: Bloomer (100 Back Stroke), Megan Coggins, Prange, Bloomer and Morgan Robinson (400 Freestyle Relay).

The following Gaffney swimmers recorded best times at Tuesday's meet: Brady Ellis (100 butterfly), Wesley Gainey (100 freestyle), Jacob Pearsal (100 breast stroke), Troy Perry (50 freestyle and 100 freestyle), Bloomer(100 backstroke), Courtney Bramlett (100 butterfly), Karli Green(100 backstroke), Sarah Humphries (200 Individual Medley), Carli Norman (50 freestyle), Prange(100 butterfly), Margaret Anne Queen (200 Individual Medley) and Amber Simmerson (50 freestyle).

Gaffney will host Fort Mill on Tuesday.
