NATIONAL CHAMPION

Ann Sossamon won first place in two categories at the U.S. Dance Championships in Orlando, Fla. Sept. 1-6. Shown here with her instructor/ dance partner Nickolai Scherban, Sossamon was named U.S. National 9- Dance Champion in Closed Silver Pro/Am competition, which includes combined scores of waltz, tango, fox trot, Viennese waltz, cha cha, rumba, swing, bolero and mambo. She also won the U.S. National Rhythm Championship in the Closed Silver Pro/Am competition. It includes combined scores of cha cha, rumba, swing, bolero and mambo. The competition in Orlando is considered America's most prestigious dance championship and contestants from across the United States compete. Scherban is the owner of Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Greenville.
