GHS volleyball team splits tri-match

By LARRY HILLIARD Ledger Sports Editor larry@gaffneyledger.com

The Gaffney High volleyball team used its brains as well as its athletic skill to beat Boiling Springs, 2-1, in a tri-match on Tuesday.

In the other matchup, highly ranked Landrum beat the Lady Indians, 2-0.

After dropping the first game, 15-25, with Boiling Springs, the Lady Indians regrouped to take the next two, 25-18, 26-24.

"We played smarter," Gaffney coach Vickie Parks said. "I hope this put us on the road to being a smarter team."

Parks praised the play of Ashley Peeler, Ashlee Tate, Holly Wolff, Cameron Crocker, Kierra Phillips and Chrishena Craig.

The result wasn't so pleasing for the Lady Indians against the Lady Cardinals, which posted a 25-19, 25-17 victory on Tuesday.

In junior varsity action, Gaffney beat both Boiling Springs and Landrum.

The varsity will host Broome on Thursday.
