Daddy Joe's fundraiser helped care for 30 men, women, children

Dear Editor:

Miracle Hill Rescue Mission wishes to thank the many individuals who helped to make our recent Miracle Hill/Daddy Joe's Fundraiser such a success.

We especially wish to thank Shag and his great staff who willingly volunteered their time to make everything possible for more than 500 individuals to come and enjoy the delicious food. Also, a special thank-you is needed for many who baked desserts, volunteered to sell tickets and served on that day.

Because of the hard work of so many, we were able to raise all of the expenses needed to care for 30 men, women, and children for one week. This may not mean much until one sees the ways it has impacted the individuals who stayed with us.

In one week, 479 meals were served to 38 different individuals who slept in a safe, clean environment that was free from drugs, alcohol, and the threat of harm. Clothing, warm showers, and laundry facilities were provided so they could be fresh and presentable for each new day. Ten individuals continued to work at their jobs, and two additional residents found jobs. Two individuals left to begin in-house addiction recovery programs, and two residents were enrolled in GED classes. In addition, every individual heard the message of God's love and the hope they can have in Him.

This fundraiser has done more than provide food, shelter, and clothing. It has helped hurting and homeless individuals have an opportunity to start all over again with hope and a new perspective on the future. Thank you very much. Murl Lehman Director Miracle Hill Rescue Mission
