The Ushers Ministry of Island Creek Baptist Church, 2112 Battleground Road, Cowpens, will celebrate its anniversary Sunday, Sept. 21, during the 9:30 a.m. worship service. Ushers will be in charge of the pulpit services and Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr. will bring the message.

The YWAs of Bethel Baptist Church will celebrate their anniversary Sunday, Sept. 21, during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. The YWAs will be in charge of the pulpit services and guest speaker will be Linda Sprouts, associate minister of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter, and past president of the state YWAs.

Heavenbound Baptist Church, 140 Blanton Meadow Drive, will have a special service Saturday, Sept. 20, at 6:30 p.m. Speaker will be Rev. Parks from Mike's Creek Baptist Church.

The Shady Grove Baptist Church Music Ministry will have a Hymn Choir Music Festival and Fellowship Service on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m. There will be a variety of music and groups on program. Scheduled to appear are the Mt. Zion Hymn Choir of Hickory Grove, Do-Re-Mi Note Choir of Fosters Chapel Church and The Harrison Grove Do-Re-Mi Note Choir, both of Roebuck, St. Peter Hymn Choir of Grover, The United Gospel Pearls, WSPA television celebrity Brother Joe Brown and the famous Melonaires of Gaffney, The Shady Grove Hymn Choir, The Shady Grove Gospel Choir and The Shady Grove Praise Singers. Emcee will be the Rev. W.T. Lewis of Spartanburg.

Pacolet Road Baptist Church will have its ninth annual community party on Saturday, Sept. 20, from noon until 6 p.m. There will be many things going on with games for kids from 1-3 p.m. Several groups will be on hand to sing, including The Lambert Family, Family Harmony, Hands of Praise of Calvary Baptist Church, New River, and Hopewell Baptist Choir. There will be lots of food - barbecue and hash, hot dogs, slaw, chips, etc. Food will be served from noon until 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come enjoy a day of fun and fellowship.

Pleasant Baptist Church invites everyone to join them as they pray for revival starting Sunday, Sept. 21, with "Amazing Grace Day" and going through Wednesday, Sept. 24. The evening services will start at 6 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Dunton United Methodist Church, 323 E. Buford St., will have a yard sale Saturday, Sept. 20, from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. There will clothes, toys ang household items available.

Meetings

The Cherokee County Girl Scouts will have an informational session Monday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Limestone Presbyterian Church, 101 E. Jefferies St. If you are interested in receiving information and are unable to attend the meeting, call Connelly-Anne Bartle, community development manager, at 864-208- 2707.

The Republican Party will have an important meeting Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Republican headquarters on Floyd Baker Boulevard.

Ladies Auxiliary 10431 will have a regular meeting Saturday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m. Hattie Smith, president, asks all members to be present.

Blacksburg VFW Post 4941 and its Ladies Auxiliary will meet Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. All past and auxiliary members are urged to attend.

Class reunions

Community events

Ladies Auxiliary 10431 will have a fish sale and voter's registration at the VFW Post on Saturday, Sept. 20, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until.

Special events

Kenneth Shuler School of Cosmetology will be donating $1 for every haircut that they do and will be accepting donations and selling Breast Cancer Awareness pins, bracelets, etc., to raise additional money. The fundraiser, themed "Cut the for Cure," will be held through Sept. 20. Hours are 10:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Saturday. For information, call 864-587- 6000/

Senior Center events

Get free answers from lawyers concerning magistrate's court at the Gaffney Senior Center, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., on Monday, Sept. 22, at 10:15 a.m. The free legal clinic will consist of a 30- to 45-minute lecture followed by an open question and answer session. Gospel concerts

Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will host a third Saturday night singing Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. Guests will be The Atkins Family, Cross Reference and The Hamptons.

The Rogers, Leabron and Betty Jo, will be having their second anniversary sing on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church, 1184 Rock Springs Church Road, Blacksburg. Special guests will be Gospel Way of Granite Falls, N.C. Refreshments will be served following the service. For more information or directions, call 864- 839-6792. Matthew and Jessica Buccheri of Gaffney announce the birth of their son, Alexander Grant, on Aug. 31, 2008, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center weighing 7 lbs. 6 ozs.

Maternal grandparents are Slick and Velina Owensby of Gaffney. Paternal grandparents are Gene and Ginny Buccheri of Cowpens.

Maternal great-grandparents are James and Louise Wyatt of Gaffney and the late Ray Owensby of Blacksburg. Paternal great-grandmothers are Eleanor Brazukas of Barre, Vt., and Jane Buccheri of Weathersfield, Conn.

Fa'lisaty Shankirra Smith

Dora Rice of Gaffney announces the birth of her daughter, Fa'lisaty Shankirra Smith, on Aug. 26, 2008, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center weighing 6 lbs. 2 ozs.

Maternal grandparents are Kathy Rice of Gaffney and Robert Rice of Shelby.
