Retired from Hoechst Celanese

Maxine Gardner Benton, 77, formerly of 116 Jason Owensby Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Golden Living Center in Hendersonville, N.C.

Born in Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Desmond Gardner and Elsie Gardner. She was retired from Hoechst Celanese and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Mike Benton of Gaffney and Ronnie Benton and wife, Diane, of Gaffney; a daughter, Kay McEntire and husband, Steve, of Gaffney; four grandchildren, Joshua Owensby, Terry Brackett and husband, Clayton, Matt Benton and Michelle Benton; and three great-grandchildren, Arran Owensby, Caleb Brackett and Bryson Owensby.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Owensby, and two brothers, Jack Gardner and Wilburn Gardner.

Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, at 11 a.m. in Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Delos Blanton officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 19, from 6- 8 p.m. at Blakely Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 901 S. Pine St., Spartanburg, S.C. 29302.

The family will be at the residence of Steve and Kay McEntire, 130 Jason Owensby Drive, Gaffney.
